On January 26, 2024<\/strong>, the director of the UoL Center for DEI, Dr. Andri Hadjiandreou, was welcomed by journalist Vicky Niulikou on CyBC’s show “Me ton aera tou Protou”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The show was dedicated to the field of Cultural Intelligence. The University of Limassol is the first institution in Cyprus that, through the UoL Center for DEI, offers services in Cultural Intelligence (CQ)\u00ae \u2013 Culture and Sustainability.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Diversity creates challenges and opportunities in the workplace, as it can be visible, such as ethnicity, gender, age, physical disabilities, and religion, or it can be felt in under-represented groups, for example, when someone can be ‘the only foreigner’, or ‘the lonely LGBTIQ+’, or ‘the only newcomer’;  or “the only woman, the only man.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A huge number of surveys found that a top factor why employees voluntarily leave their jobs is a lack of inclusivity and inclusion within their work environments. At the same time, scholars of diversity and inclusion define inclusion in terms of two distinct elements: uniqueness and a sense of belonging. In other words, employees need to feel part of a team, which at the same time does not force them to assimilate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The educational programs “Culture and Sustainable Development” create conditions of inclusion and participation through effective seminars that consider both the uniqueness of employees and citizens in general, as well as the sense of belonging. They provide leaders with tools and training opportunities, inextricably linked to sustainable development and social governance, to support a fair and inclusive work environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
