Funded by the CERV programme, the project officially commenced with a kick-off meeting held in Castellón, Spain, on 25-26 February 2026 and will run until January 2028.

As online gaming becomes an increasingly central part of children’s digital lives, FAIR GAME responds to a pressing need: ensuring that gaming spaces respect children’s rights and support their well-being. In particular, the project addresses key challenges such as cyberbullying, exposure to harmful content, and exploitative monetisation practices, all of which can significantly impact children’s mental health and overall digital experience.

The project brings together educators, parents, children, and industry stakeholders to build the knowledge, tools, and strategies needed for safer, more responsible digital engagement. It also contributes to key European priorities, including the Better Internet for Kids (BIK+) strategy, by promoting a more protective and empowering online environment for young users.

FAIR GAME follows a structured approach to strengthen digital literacy and responsible gaming practices. It also seeks to promote child rights-centred design within the gaming sector and raise awareness of the impact of gaming environments on children’s well-being.

The project is implemented through several key work packages, including the development of educational tools and materials, engagement with the gaming industry, and the empowerment of young people as Digital Rights Ambassadors. In this context, the University of Limassol leads Work Package 4, focusing on mentoring and supporting young ambassadors who will raise awareness, contribute to international dialogue, and help shape more inclusive gaming environments.

The project brings together a dynamic consortium of partners from across Europe:

Universitat Jaume I de Castellón (UJI), Spain – Project Coordinator

ALL DIGITAL, Belgium

8D Games, Netherlands

Save the Children, Finland

University of Limassol (UoL), Cyprus

At the national level, the project is implemented by the Research Center of the University of Limassol, represented by Savvas Charalambous and Annita Eliade.

For more information or to participate in upcoming activities, please contact: research@uol.ac.cy

The University of Limassol announces the launch of FAIR GAME, a new European project aimed at promoting safer, more inclusive, and supportive digital gaming environments for children.
