Dr. Kyriaki Mikellidou, Assistant Professor of Psychology at the University of Limassol, participated in the University’s podcast series “Bright Minds at UoL” in a thought-provoking episode titled “How Much Do You See When You Take a Look?”.

In this episode, Dr. Mikellidou guides us through the fascinating world of visual perception and cognitive neuroscience, explaining how the brain processes visual information and how our past experiences shape what we believe we “see.” Through simple yet insightful examples, she highlights how the brain “fills in the gaps,” actively constructing our perception of the world.

The discussion also explores how our senses form the foundation of our life experiences and how, by better understanding the way we perceive the world, we can positively influence our daily lives and live a more fulfilling and satisfying life. Particular emphasis is also placed on how psychology can meaningfully improve people’s lives across different settings, including the workplace, school, and home.

The conversation further connects scientific research with everyday life, touching on topics such as virtual reality and generative artificial intelligence, as well as the challenges and opportunities faced by young scientists in the Cypriot research landscape. The episode is hosted by Dr. Andri Hadjiandreou, coordinator of UoL Talks and Director of the UoL Center for DEI. Watch the episode in Greek.
