On the occasion of International Volunteer Day (December 5, 2025), EmpaTRaIny Research Associate Ms. Anastasia Maria Kesoglou published an article highlighting the importance of volunteering for social and psychosomatic well-being.
Drawing inspiration from Aristotle’s philosophy, the article presents volunteering as a meaningful act of altruism and solidarity, benefiting not only society but also the individual. Based on scientific evidence, it outlines the multiple benefits of volunteering, including enhanced social inclusion, a stronger sense of purpose, and improvements in both mental and physical health.
At the same time, the article discusses potential challenges, such as the risk of emotional exhaustion in cases of prolonged and intense empathic engagement, emphasizing the importance of social and organizational support. In this context, the article connects with the EmpaTRaIny project, which approaches empathy as a skill that can be cultivated and regulated, aiming to strengthen psychological resilience and overall quality of life.
