Learning Outcomes

  • Discuss developments in strategic management.
  • Analyse the broad macro-environment of organisations in terms of political, economic, social, technological, environmental and legal factors.
  • Evaluate the influence of key external factors on an organization’s strategy.
  • Evaluate ethical issues arising from the organisation’s interaction with its environment (CIMA Code of Ethics in the context of the implementation of strategic plans).
  • Identify key drivers in this macro-environment and use these key drivers to construct alternative scenarios with regard to environmental change.
  • Use Porter’s five forces in order to define the attractiveness of industries and sectors and to identify their potential change.
  • Identify successful strategic groups, valuable market segments and attractive industries.
  • Use these various concepts and techniques in order to recognize threats and opportunities in the market place.
  • Analyze the relationship between different aspects of the global business environment.
