The objective of this course is to provide the theoretical and mathematical skills, knowledge and tools for determining income, employment, the price level, interest rates and exchange rates in the economy, analyzing short-run and long-run macroeconomic equilibrium, and understanding how policy has an impact on the rest of the macroeconomy.

Learning Outcomes

  • Define the main macroeconomic variables and explain their method of measurement.
  • Illustrate the determinants of the levels of income, inflation, and unemployment prevailing in an economy.
  • Explain the macroeconomic effects of monetary and fiscal policies, as well as those of other shocks hitting the economy.
  • Evaluate the impact of central banks’ decisions on the likely evolution of interest rates, income, demand, etc..
  • Describe the interactions between developments in financial markets and changes in the macroeconomic equilibrium of a country.
  • Analyze the causes and likely consequences of country deficits.
