Course Objectives
The objective of this course is to introduce the fundamental concepts, and analyse, research methods in Shipping Industry. The aim is to familiarize students with the tools of statistics, provide the appropriate theoretical and practical skills necessary for collecting, analyzing and interpreting data for addressing a business problem in the real world. The course will also introduce students to basic financial mathematics, which will enable them to better understand real world decisions related to investments and finance.
Learning Outcomes
- Obtain a thorough understanding of the process of formulating appropriate Research questions.
- Understand the basics of financial mathematics and appreciate their application to business decisions.
- Develop analytical and other generic skills via collecting, analysing, and interpreting data from several sources to make informed decisions and solve complex management problems.
- Select and apply appropriate research methods and tools to study a managerial case/problem.
- In-depth and holistic understanding of the tools of statistics, provide the appropriate theoretical and practical skills necessary for collecting, analysing and interpreting data.
- Develop a good and solid understanding of the main aspects and forces in Research analysis.
- Know how various risk factors in the shipping industry can affect the revenues and costs of a shipping firm. Know what financial instruments may be used to manage such factors.
- Understand the tools of statistics and interpreting data for addressing a business problem in the real world.
- Understand the options available to the research team of a shipping firm in the context of analysing and decision- making process.
