DEI
Welcome to the University of Limassol Center for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
(UoL Center for DEI)
In today’s interconnected and multicultural world, collaborating with individuals from diverse backgrounds is essential for personal and professional success and an exciting, lifelong journey filled with transformative experiences. At the University of Limassol (UoL), we firmly believe that Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion are pillars of progress, innovation, and sustainable development.
Our UoL Center for DEI is dedicated to fostering an inclusive, equitable, and diverse environment, beginning with the senior leadership of our university and extending to our students, the broader community, and stakeholders across sectors. We embrace an intersectional approach to promoting equity and inclusivity, integrating these principles into the very fabric of our action plan for 2022–2029 as a strategy for meaningful change.
Creating fair and inclusive outcomes requires more than good intentions; it demands structured action, measurable results, and the cultivation of talents and skills that enhance understanding and flexibility. Through our innovative training programs, we empower leaders, employees, and citizens alike to embrace diversity as a strength, fostering environments that are transparent, welcoming, and conducive to growth.
As part of our commitment, UoL is proud to be the first university in Cyprus to offer Cultural Intelligence (CQ)® services and certified programs in Social Marketing through our UoL Center for DEI.
Acting as the national representative of the European Social Marketing Association (ESMA), we are uniquely positioned to align our initiatives with the EU’s policy frameworks for economic and social cohesion. These efforts are further enriched by our focus on two critical areas of modern society: Mental and Social Health in the 21st Century and Personal Life and Success Skills.
At UoL Center for DEI, we are building a future where inclusion is the norm and diversity is celebrated. We invite you to join us on this exciting journey of lifelong learning, where we embrace change, inspire transformation, and create a world where everyone can thrive.
Welcome to the heart of diversity, equity, and inclusion at the University of Limassol.
Let’s shape the future together!

Our Mission
Who are we?
The UoL Center for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (UoL Center for DEI) is an innovative Centre in Cyprus that deals exclusively with issues of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and how these relate to the 17 sustainable development goals, as well as to environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG).
What do we believe in?
We believe that the term Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion, known as “DEI”, is one of the most important forms of education and training in the 21st century. Implementing an intersectional approach to promote and achieve constructive outcomes in relation to equality, diversity and inclusion in the workplace is now a one-way street, starting with the senior leadership of organizations and companies, or other stakeholders. Creating fair outcomes implies an inclusive approach, integrated as a strategy for change in the organization or company concerned.
Some of the cornerstones that underlie such change are the promotion of motivation to understand these principles, the strengthening of the need for change through formal mechanisms that offer measurable and tangible results, as well as the development of talents and skills that enhance behavioral flexibility.
Why DEI?
The term DEI, after all, is a form of necessary education and training, in the modern workplace in the context of lifelong learning. Investing in the integration of DEI objectives, actions and practices creates added value for businesses, as it builds their reputation and the relationship of trust within the company itself and between its workforce, between the business and its customers, but also between the business and society at large. At the same time, people with sensitivities and skills on equality, diversity and inclusion are more likely to exceed their personal and financial goals, have better business outcomes and are more innovative and creative.
To achieve sustainable and inclusive change and growth, we must implement this new way of thinking and working.
And this is the moment when the UoL Centre for DEI comes into play!
Why today? Why now? Why always?
We live and work in an increasingly globalized and multicultural world. The difficulties surrounding what is considered acceptable and what is familiar are constantly being refuted. Dealing with, guiding, and managing other people who may have different opinions, values, experiences, behaviors, lifestyles, and approaches from us, is the key to success, personal, social and professional.
The UoL Centre for DEI is an organizational effort to increase diversity in representation at every level of an organization or company, to actively respond to individual and systemic prejudices, behaviors, policies, and practices that ensure that everyone has fair access to opportunities, and to promote an environment where people with different identities experience a sense of appreciation and respect.
Diversity, in other words, creates both challenges and opportunities in the workplace, as it can be visible, such as ethnicity, gender, age, physical disabilities, religion, or it can be felt in underrepresented groups, such as when someone can be “the only foreigner”, or “the only LGBTQI+”, or “the only newcomer”, or “the only woman, the only man”. A huge amount of recent research has found that a top factor why employees voluntarily leave their jobs is their lack of inclusivity within their work environments.
At the same time, scholars of diversity and inclusion define inclusion based on two separate elements: uniqueness and a sense of belonging. This means that employees have the need to feel part of a group, which at the same time does not force them to assimilate.
How do we achieve our goals?
The UoL Centre for DEI creates conditions of inclusion and participation through effective programs that enhance the importance of equality, considering both the uniqueness of employees and citizens in general, as well as the sense of belonging. At the same time, it provides leaders with training tools and opportunities to support a fair and inclusive work environment, away from prejudice and favoritism.
An environment where diversity can be perceived and exploited to ensure transparency and productivity, and an environment where everyone feels welcome and safe, while maintaining their uniqueness. In other words, the UoL Center for DEI enhances elements that are inextricably linked to sustainable development and social governance in the 21st century.
What do we offer?
UoL is the first university in Cyprus which, through the UoL Centre for DEI, offers services in Cultural Intelligence (CQ)® and certified programs in Social Marketing. It is, in this context, the only body that acts exclusively as the National Representative of the European Social Marketing Association (ESMA).
Both pioneering areas, Cultural Intelligence and Social Marketing, are in line with the EU’ s policy framework for economic and social cohesion. These areas are complemented and reinforced by two additional thematic areas necessary for modern society, which concern Mental and Social Health in the 21st Century and Personal Life and Success Skills.
Who are we addressing?
Through its diverse actions, the UoL Centre for DEI considers the needs of modern civil society, which is characterized by divisive tendencies and polarized attitudes. At the same time, it recognizes the needs of professionals, who operate in a globalized environment and for this reason, offers seminars that develop and put into practice the skills that are inextricably linked to the effectiveness in the wider industry (Cypriot and multinational companies and organizations), the State, local government, schools and other academic institutions, health professionals, law enforcement professionals, non-governmental organizations and local economic operators. In the educational sector, the Center innovates with programs specially designed for academics and educators of all levels, as well as for parents.
At the same time, the UoL Centre for DEI addresses every adult citizen in the context of lifelong learning who wishes to improve their effectiveness in their workplace, as well as their relations within their communities, in organized groups promoting social justice and resisting social injustice, as well as to people who seek social dignity. Finally, the UoL Centre for DEI collaborates with the “School of Calm Thinking” offering seminars on bioethics and self-improvement. It also collaborates with Curious Qat Cultural Organization, which specializes in Cultural Intelligence and Cultural Management.
