The Cyprus Forum 2024, co-organized by Oxygen for Democracy, the University of Cyprus, Zenox Public Affairs, and the Delphi Economic Forum, stands as the most prominent conference in Cyprus focusing on economy, politics, and policy. As an independent, non-profit event, the Forum aims to promote sustainable and socially responsible policies in Cyprus and the Eastern Mediterranean through discussions that lead to concrete actions.
Dr. Afxentis Afxentiou, Director of the UoL Research Center, chaired a discussion titled “The Human Rights Situation in Palestine and the States’ Obligations” at the Cyprus Forum 2024. In an insightful conversation with Tahseen Ellayan, a legal researcher from the Al Haq organization in Ramallah, West Bank, Dr. Afxentiou explored the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Palestine over the past year. The discussion delved into the challenges of applying international law, the obligations of states, and the role of the international community in responding to the humanitarian crisis. It concluded with an analysis of how the current situation negatively impacts the effectiveness of international law in mitigating and preventing violence in the Middle East, as well as its ramifications for future conflicts.

The University of Limassol remains dedicated to participating in conferences that align with our mission to advance knowledge, foster understanding, and contribute to global efforts addressing humanitarian challenges.
