Memorandum of cooperation with the Association for the Prevention and Handling of Violence in the Family (SPAVO)

On 15 January 2024, the University of Limassol and the UoL Center for DEI signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Association for the Prevention and Handling of Violence in the Family (SPAVO).

SPAVO is an NGO founded in 1990 with the aim of:

  • Prevention of domestic violence
  • Provide immediate assistance to people who are subjected to or exercise violence in the family
  • Provide shelter and protection to victims of domestic violence
  • Provide information and counselling support to abused women
  • Provide information and counselling support to people who commit violence
  • theoretical and practical training for people interested in volunteering assistance
  • Informing and sensitizing the competent authorities and citizens about the social phenomenon of domestic violence
  • Identification of deficiencies or weaknesses in the legislation and procedures followed by the competent services, as well as the submission of recommendations to the competent state bodies both for corrective measures and for the development of a broader policy on domestic violence
  • participation in national and European programs

The primary objective of the Memorandum is to create a framework on issues of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. For this reason, the Parties shall:

  • collaborate on research projects related to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion issues
  • jointly organize and participate in training programs, workshops, seminars, and conferences to enhance staff’s skills and knowledge on Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion issues
  • exchange information and expertise to support the development of SPAVO’s strategy and policies on Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion issues
  • collaborate to raise awareness on Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion issues through joint campaigns, educational programs, and outreach activities
