Learning Outcomes

On completion of this course students are expected to:

CILO 1 Apply basic analytical approaches to summarize, analyze, visualize, and effectively present accounting and financial data.
CILO 2 Evaluate, employ, and critically assess the current evolution of enterprise-wide systems and their impact on business process reengineering.
CILO 3 Implement Program and test business intelligence software for AIS implementations.
CILO 4 Conduct critical evaluations of accounting controls and security measures within AIS.

The course will be structured around the following activities:

Introduction to the Fundamentals and Techniques of Data Analytics. CILO 1
Data Preparation and Cleansing; Various Approaches to Data Analytics; Data Visualization and Summarization. CILO 1, 2
Reviewing Modern Systems Development Methodologies for AIS, including the Software Development Life Cycle, Prototyping, and End-User Development CILO 2
Exploring Diagnostic, Predictive, and Prescriptive Analytics in Managerial and Financial Accounting. CILO 2
Understanding Key Concepts of Accounting Information Systems (AIS) and Overview of Modern Enterprise Resource Planning Systems (ERP). CILO 2, 3
Examination of Management Decision Support Systems and Business Intelligence (BI). CILO 3
Considerations of Ethics, Fraud, and IT Controls in Accounting and Information Systems. CILO 4
