The joint graduation ceremony of the Cyprus International Institute of Management (CIIM) and the University of Limassol (UoL) took place on the 2nd of December 2023. This ceremony has marked yet another important milestone in the historical development of higher education in Cyprus, as it was the last graduation of CIIM and the first of the University of Limassol (UoL).
The ceremony, which was attended by distinguished guests, including the President of the House of Representatives, Ms. Anita Demetriou, MPs, the Mayor of Limassol, Mr. Nikos Nicolaides and members of the academic community, was the culmination of years of hard work, dedication and determination.
The ceremony honored the great legacy of the Cyprus International Institute of Management (CIIM) and embraced its evolutionary journey that led to the establishment of the University of Limassol (UoL). Ms. Anita Demetriou, President of the House of Representatives, in her commencement address talked about the great contribution of CIIM for a generation and the great expectations for UoL to continue and expand CIIM’s contribution in many more fields of study and disciplines for the benefit of the Limassol community and the country in general. Ms. Demetriou, a role model for the graduates, handed the awards and the degrees and congratulate each and every one of our graduates individually.
Additionally, in his speech, the Rector of the University of Limassol, Professor Theodore Panayotou, briefly reviewed the history of CIIM and welcomed the results of 33 years of hard work that contributed to the establishment of the University of Limassol; an event that has been his dream from the very beginning he assumed its leadership in the year 2000. Addressing the graduates, he said: “The best advice I can give to you, beloved graduates, is to dream and never give up on those dreams, even though eventually some of them will be crashed; the ones that succeed, make having great dreams worth it. ‘Ever evolving’ is UoL’s motto and this is my second piece of advice to all graduates – Keep Evolving. When you evolve, you never become obsolete.”
In his address, Mr. Socrates Ellinas, Chairman of the Council of the University of Limassol, in his speech congratulated the last graduates of CIIM and the first of the University of Limassol and said: “you are the living testament of the success of our institution. Your hard work, dedication and resilience have brought you to this momentous day. The University of Limassol is not just a place of education; it is a launchpad for your dreams and aspirations. Your success will not only be a reflection of your individual accomplishments, but also a testament to the quality of the education and mentorship you received here.”
The University of Limassol embraces its evolution with the motto “Ever evolving,” continuing thus to be a beacon of knowledge and creativity, a hub of innovation, and a catalyst for change in Cyprus and beyond.
The University of Limassol (UoL) is the evolution of the Cyprus International Institute of Management (CIIM). It offers degree programmes in Business Administration, Technology and Innovation, Economics and Finance and, in the very near future, in Social Sciences and Humanities.
