No smoking policy

The University of Limassol (UoL) is committed to ensuring a healthy and safe environment for all students, staff, faculty, and visitors. In accordance with the Cyprus Government Protection of Health (Control of Smoking) Laws of 2002 to 2009 and subsequent amendments ¹, this No Smoking Policy seeks to minimize exposure to second-hand smoke, promote a tobacco-free environment, and comply with the national legal framework for tobacco control ².

Smoking is strictly prohibited in the following areas:

All enclosed public spaces, including university buildings such as classrooms, lecture halls, offices, libraries, and cafeterias.
Open spaces within university premises, except in designated smoking areas.
University-owned vehicles.
Entrances, exits, and windows of all university buildings.
Any area not explicitly marked as a designated smoking area.

Designated Smoking Areas

University of Limassol has designated specific outdoor areas where smoking is permitted. These areas are:

Clearly marked and situated at least 5 meters away from entrances, windows, air intakes, and other non-smoking areas. These areas are the only spaces where smoking is allowed on campus.

Compliance and Enforcement

All members of the University community, as well as all external stakeholders, are required to comply with this Policy. The provisions of this Policy apply to all individuals who work, study, provide services, or visit University premises, including but not limited to:

Executive Management
Academic staff
Administrative staff
Students (undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral)
Researchers
External trainers and consultants
Contractors and service providers
Visitors, guests, and event participants
Partner institutions and collaborators

Non-compliance with the smoking restrictions may result in fines as outlined in Article 11 of the Protection of Health (Control of Smoking) Laws and/or Disciplinary Actions.

² This includes all forms of tobacco products, including traditional cigarettes, electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes), and heated tobacco products.

Monitoring and Reporting
