To provide students with the fundamentals of Operations and Supply Chain Management. It provides students with the analytical skills, techniques and tools required in managing the operations of a manufacturing or service organization. It discusses diverse activities, such as production process, global sourcing and procurement, planning and scheduling the flow of materials, Capacity Management, forecasting, inventory models, quality management, lean and sustainable supply chains, and location, logistics, and distribution.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understand the importance of production, operations supply chain systems in manufacturing and service sectors.
  • Demonstrate effective management of these systems.
  • Explain the various types of production process and understand process analysis.
  • Appraise global sourcing and procurement techniques.
  • Compare and discuss different inventory models.
  • Classify and use forecasting models.
  • Explain what is lean and sustainable supply chains.
  • Explain the importance of Quality Management.
  • Demonstrate knowledge in determining new locations for a firm, taking into account logistics and distribution systems.
  • Understand what is Capacity Planning and scheduling.
