Students should acquire a thorough introduction to clinical psychology. The purpose is to acquaint students with the core theories, notions, and techniques of clinical psychology. There will also be discussion of clinical psychology-related ethical issues. Students should have a firm understanding of the fundamental ideas that guide the study and application of clinical psychology by the completion of this course. 

Learning Outcomes

The following learning outcomes are expected, where students will:  

  1. Demonstrate awareness of the historical evolution and important ideas in clinical psychology. 
  2. Describe the moral principles and professional benchmarks that apply to clinical psychology. 
  3. Analyze the benefits and drawbacks of various psychological assessment strategies. 
  4. Apply fundamental therapeutic techniques to case scenarios. 
  5. Evaluate the significance of clinical research findings for practice.

Course Features

Teaching methodology: Lecture

Assessment:

  1. Midterm & Final Exam (30% & 30%): Mid-term and final exams will be conducted covering the entire course. Both exams will include multiple-choice, short-answer, and essay questions.  
  2. Group assignment and presentation (20%): Assign group projects that require students to work together to provide a case conceptualization, including how to collect clinically-relevant information (i.e. assessment), diagnosis, treatment and ethical considerations, based on real-case scenarios provided by the lecturer. 
  3. Individual assignment (10%): Critical analysis of one of the potential interventions. 
  4. Presence and Participation (10%): Students should be present and actively participate in in-class discussions.
