Dr. Ioannis Filippopoulos, Assistant Professor and co-Director of the MSc Shipping and Operations Management at the University of Limassol, recently served as a visiting professor at the World Maritime University (WMU), delivering a two-day series of lectures to postgraduate students. The sessions were part of WMU’s ongoing efforts to bring leading academic and industry voices into the classroom.
Recognized by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the United Nations General Assembly as a global centre of excellence, WMU plays a vital role in maritime and ocean education, research, and capacity development. The university is also at the forefront of promoting gender equality and empowering women in the maritime and ocean sectors.
Dr. Filippopoulos engaged students in dynamic discussions on the transformative impact of artificial intelligence, applied computing, cybersecurity, and digital technologies on the shipping industry. The lectures highlighted how these innovations are reshaping global maritime operations and driving the sector’s digital evolution.
“It was a great experience and an honour to engage with such bright and passionate students,” said Dr. Filippopoulos. “Their insights and questions reflected a strong understanding of the challenges and opportunities ahead for the maritime sector in the digital age.”
