Students and faculty at UoL recently had the opportunity to delve into the inner workings of the Cyprus Stock Exchange (CSE), thanks to a guest lecture delivered by experienced professionals from the Exchange — Mrs. Maria Petsa Papacharalambous, CSE Head of Listing and Market Division, Mrs. Eliza Stasopoulou, Senior Officer, and Mr. Michalis Michael, Officer A.

Held as part of the university’s initiative to connect academic theory with real-world market practice, the session shed light on how the CSE operates within the broader financial ecosystem of Cyprus. Topics ranged from trading mechanics and market models to index construction and career paths in finance.

One of the highlights of the session was the deep dive into CSE’s trading engine — a system designed for transparency and efficiency — and the ways in which investors, brokers, and institutions interact with it daily. The speakers also introduced students to the logic behind market indices such as the FTSE/CySE20, explaining how caps and weightings are used to ensure fair representation of listed companies.

Beyond technical insights, the discussion turned to career opportunities in the financial industry, inspiring students to consider paths such as risk management, compliance, algorithmic trading, and capital markets analysis.

“It’s one thing to study markets in a textbook, and another to hear firsthand how they actually function,” said one participating student. “This session made everything click.”

The university sincerely thanks the team from the Cyprus Stock Exchange for their time, expertise, and dedication to building financial literacy among future professionals. We look forward to more such collaborations in the semesters ahead.
