The Department of Information Technologies inherits from CIIM numerous strengths in its educational programs, faculty, students, corporate relations, and overall reputation within the region, and a legacy of educating and graduating students who become leaders in their chosen profession within private and public sector organizations.
The field of information technology and computer science is stimulating and fast developing. It also has a positive impact in many other scientific disciplines. The Department has been expanding and hiring new faculty working on state-of-the-art topics such as blockchain, networks, cloud computing, internet of things, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, and computer vision.
The Department is located in the town campuses, of Limassol and Nicosia, where multiple developing technology companies working on software for variety of applications for the economy and society open vast opportunities for fruitful collaborations. The department is in an excellent position to take advantage of the various opportunities within this environment.
The Department offers an undergraduate program in Computing and Business Technologies and two graduate programs: one in Business Intelligence and Data Analytics and one in Computer Science and Business Technologies.
The undergraduate program prepares students for careers in industry or the public sector for positions that involve computer science applications to business, where they are in high demand. It also prepares students for continuing their studies in a graduate school, aiming for research and academic careers in computer science or related fields.
The graduate programs are targeted towards students with a sufficient quantitative background to computer science, data analytics, and digital transformation of businesses. The Master of Science (MSc) in Business Intelligence and Data Analytics emphasizes on big data management, analysis, and visualization as well as on blockchain and cybersecurity. The Master of Science (MSc) in Computer Science and Business Technologies provides a more analytical approach to the field with emphasis on the principles and use of modern computer science languages and technologies as well as artificial intelligence to business.
Specifically, the Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Computing and Business Technologies is designed to provide students with the basic skills and state-of-the-art knowledge, preparing them for employment in a variety of occupations in technology companies, business or government, and/or for continued study and research in graduate schools in computer science, business, and related fields. The studies are conveniently spread over four years allowing students to gain practical experience through internships while pursuing a prestigious BSc degree. The programs will be offered at the Limassol campus, but the course schedule is designed to fit students that reside in other parts of the island.
Two graduate programs are offered by the school. The MSc in Business Intelligence and Data Analytics, is inherited from CIIM, the predecessor of the University of Limassol. It provides students with advanced knowledge in programming, methodology, and tools for analysis of business data of a variety of sectors of the economy and government.
The newest is the MSc in Computer Science and Business Technologies and is a specialized program intended to provide profound knowledge in computer science languages and modern technologies such as artificial intelligence and their application to business. It is intended for students of computer science and STEM programs, as well as to students with other majors such as economics, business, and generally to students with a sufficient quantitative background. The graduate programs are offered in both campuses: Limassol and Nicosia.
The department provides education to the next generation of computer scientists and is inclusive for students with diverse backgrounds.
